AN ITALIAN LOVE STORY
A tale rooted in Capri's unique land, intertwined with the legend of the Certosa monks. The history of I Profumi di Capri spans centuries, tracing back to Queen Giovanna d’Angiò. In 1380, to celebrate her arrival, the Certosa monks gathered Capri's most beautiful flowers. Upon discarding them, they discovered the water had acquired a mysterious, enchanting scent.
Today, our laboratory stands mere steps from the Gardens of Augustus. At Carthusia, we faithfully uphold this ancient olfactory tradition and the values of the past. All production stages are still carried out by hand, guaranteeing natural methods and the precious care of artisanal craftsmanship.
Choosing a Carthusia fragrance embodies the refined sobriety of Italian style, where the relentless pursuit of perfection inspires unique essences. After nearly 600 years, in 1948, the Certosa Prior rediscovered the old formulas. With papal permission, they were revealed to a chemist, giving birth to the world's smallest fragrance laboratory, Carthusia – Latin for Certosa. Our enduring mission is to protect this cultural and natural heritage, sharing our profound love for this land and its roots with future generations.
